Sundays 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
October 17, 24, November 7, 14, 21, 28
Beginning - Advanced
In this course we will explore the basic foundations for sculpting animals. Nikole Cooney will take you step by step through the process of creating your own favored animal. With these two products the possibilities are endless! This class will give you the basic groundwork, knowledge of materials, techniques, and CONFIDENCE to know you can create anything you can dream up!

Materials list:
  • Creative Paperclay (Hobby Lobby, Michaels or Amazon)
  • Magic Sculpt (Amazon)
  • Spray or Misting bottle (I use a misting bottle from Amazon because it gives an even fine mist, but any will work)
  • A variety of sculpting tools (carving tools and loops are helpful)
  • Roller tool or old rolling pin (we have 2 available at the center)
  • Any small water container
  • Disposable nitrile gloves- form fitting
  • Foil
  • Sculpting wire (aluminum wire is great for bending into smaller shapes)
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Masking tape
  • Sketchbook
  • A wooden board to sculpt on. Any board will do. An approximate size of 12 x 16 is a good.
  • YOUR SUBJECT! Please bring an anatomically correct drawing or photo of the subject you would like to create! For example: If I want to sculpt a giraffe I am going to look for an anatomical profile of a giraffe and also any other views I can find. If you can find an anatomy photo as muscle or bones this is a great help. Collect as many resources of your subject as you can. I frequently use a book titled Animal Anatomy for Artists- The Elements of Form by Eliot Goldfinger. It is very helpful if you choose to purchase it but it is not required. Used copies are out there at a significantly cheaper price too. I will also bring mine to class.
