  • Tampa Bay Prays II
We have compiled a prayer book of over 50 prayers for the second time after inviting our extended Franciscan Center family to share a favorite prayer with us. Now, our little prayer book, Tampa Bay Prays II, is available to buy online.

Tampa Bay Prays II is our newest version of the beloved 2005 Tampa Bay Prays, which celebrated our 35th anniversary. And for our 50th year, we are happy to offer this treasure to the community once again. This collection of special prayers illustrates the impact of the Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany to build community in Tampa Bay and how it has grown into a vibrant spiritual family over the last 50 years. It offers joy, laughter, inspiration, and insight from diverse faiths and backgrounds.

We hope you enjoy this book and choose to use it in your conversations with God. May the prayers in this book help bring you blessings and peace.

All proceeds from the sale of the booklet go towards supporting the mission of the Franciscan Center.

The price is $10.00 per book plus $4.25 to cover shipping and postage costs ($14.25)
If you would like to order multiple books, you only need to add the $4.25 shipping/postage cost one time.  For example: 6 books equals $64.25.

  • The Crown - First Friday Rosary December ~ March via Zoom
    First Fridays December to March
    10:00 a.m.
With Sister Anne Martin Robonie, OSF and The Franciscan Sisters of Allegany

Join us on the First Friday of every month beginning December 3, 2021, at 10:00 am for The Rosary with Sister Anne Martin Robinie, OSF and the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany.

The Franciscan Crown ( or Seraphic Rosary ) is a rosary consisting of seven decades in commemoration of the Seven Joys of the Virgin, the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity of Jesus, the Adoration of the Magi, the Finding in the Temple, the Resurrection of Jesus, and the Assumption of Mary.

The Franciscan historian, Father Luke Wadding (1588- 1657) dates the origin of the Franciscan Crown to the year 1422.  According to Franciscan tradition, in 1422 an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary took place in Assisi, to a Franciscan novice named James.  As a child, he had the custom of offering daily the Virgin Mary a crown of roses.  When he entered the Friars Minor, he became distressed that he would no longer be able to offer this gift.  The Blessed Virgin appeared to him to give him comfort and showed him another daily offering that he might do: to pray every day seven decades of Hail Marys, meditating between each decade on one of the seven joys that she had experienced in her life.

How to Pray the Franciscan Crown
The Rosary begins by stating the first Joy and then praying one Our Father and ten Hail Marys while meditating upon it.  This same procedure is then followed for the other six Joys.  It is common practice to add the Glory Be at the end of each decade.  It is customary, after the seventh mystery, to pray two more Hail Marys to bring the total number to seventy-two in honor of the tradition that Mary live for 72 years.

  • Christmas Star Bread Class
    December 13, 2021
    2:00-4:00 pm
    Facilitated by: Renae Seiler

Join us for a Zoom baking class where we will make the beautiful and surprisingly easy Christmas Star Bread. Christmas Star Bread is a yeasted sweet dough filled with cinnamon sugar and topped with a dust of powdered sugar. You will get the opportunity to work with yeast dough, learn the technique for filling and shaping the dough, and have delicious showpiece bread you can enjoy at the holidays. The finished bread can be well wrapped and frozen to enjoy at a later date.

You will receive the recipe in advance. If you want to follow along with the instructor, before class you will need to prepare the dough (either by hand or with a stand mixer), allow 60-90 minutes for it to rise, and gather the ingredients for the filling. The dough creation and rising can also be done 1-2 days before, with the dough stored in the refrigerator until class time. During class, the instructor will walk you through the dough making process, rolling, filling then shaping the dough to ready it for baking.

    Topics include:

    - yeast dough creation
    - rising times
    - rolling and shaping dough
    - types of fillings
    - proper egg wash technique
    - freezing: how to properly freeze dough or finished bread
    - and of course...eating!

  • Monthly Enneagram via Zoom- December 2021
    Tuesday, December 14, 2021
    7:00-9:00 p.m.
    Facilitated by:  Tim Flood

The Enneagram is an ancient psycho-spiritual system used by the desert fathers which maps the connection between our everyday personalities and our deepest inner potentials. (Yes! They ARE connected!) It is widely used as a means to greater self awareness and emotional intelligence  by spiritual directors, therapists and coaches worldwide. This new monthly group will gently expand learning via the Narrative Tradition in Enneagram studies, championed by Helen Palmer and David Daniels, from whom Tim Flood received his certifications in 2001.

These monthly sessions center on facilitated storysharing, exploring the Enneagram types of those attending… everyone in the circle is an expert, and everybody learns!  With the Enneagram as a lens, as one participant remarked, “It’s amazing how quickly a group of strangers can be sharing at such depth!”  That’s the idea!
Some idea of your Enneagram type is helpful, but not necessary. When you register, helpful materials will be sent to you, along with the ZOOM link. Come and try it out!

  • Dream Sharing Gathering via Zoom- December 2021
    Wednesday, December 15, 2021
    1:30 pm – 3:30 pm.
Facilitated by Sr. Jeanne Williams, OSF

The Franciscan Center is again offering Dream Gathering Groups, which is scheduled for December 15th from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

These gatherings provide an opportunity for deeper exploration of dreams within a group setting.  Through reflection and dialogue with the group, all come to a greater understanding of the meaning of the dream shared.  Although one member of the group actually shares the dream, all benefit by gaining insight regarding how dreams reveal the true self – the Imago Dei.

Members of these sharing groups must have prior knowledge of dream work and Jungian dream vocabulary.  We hope to welcome back those who participated in the sharing groups offered on November 17th.  Additional participants, with knowledge of Jungian dream work, are also welcome to these groups.
