  • 2020 Basic First Aid & CPR Training for MSHI Volunteers
    MSHI is excited to offer American Red Cross certification training for returning and new volunteers in 2020!
     
    This Adult & Pediatric First Aid & CPR course will be taught by MSHI Volunteer Manager Sarah Philips. MSHI will offer two training options this year: full-day in-person training, and online/in-person blended learning. Both will meet the training requirements for Volcano Ambassadors, Mountain Stewards, and Education Volunteers, and will help prepare you to make safe decisions and respond to emergencies on the mountain.
     
    No previous First Aid/CPR training is required.
     
    Registration closes one week before each class. 
     
    Returning volunteers and Volcano Naturalists are encouraged to sign up for the March & April training dates. Additional training dates will be added in June and July, but are intended primarily for new volunteers.
     
    Course Dates:
    Wednesday, March 18, 2020 | 9am-4:30pm | Full Day In-Person
    Thursday, April 2, 2020 | 6pm-8:30pm | Blended Learning On-line & In-Person
     
    Cost: $40.00 for new volunteers and is free for returning volunteers who were active in 2019 - email sphilips@mshinstitute.org for your promo code.

    Please note: Volunteers are NOT required to train through MSHI. Any certification of basic First Aid & CPR (or higher) that meets OSHA guidelines will qualify. If you choose to certify through another organization, you will need to send your certification card to sphilips@mshinstitute.org
     
    About this certification: The Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age - adults (about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age). Students who successfully complete this course will receive a digital certificate from the American Red Cross for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.
     
    Additional Information about the online/in-person blended learning training option: This is a blended learning course including an online portion and an instructor-led classroom skill session. The online portion MUST be completed prior to attending the in-class portion and must be taken on a PC or tablet with a high speed Internet connection. Allow approximately 3 hours to complete the online portion.
