Virtual Two-Part Demonstration Workshop using the Zoom Platform

In this workshop we will explore using wood to create a whimsical brooch from start to finish! Beginning with: some of the elements and principles of design, and what makes a compelling composition. Students will also learn about sanding and shaping the wood, preparing it for paint, painting techniques, and finishing the wood. Finally, students will learn how to make cold connections to complete the brooch and create a pin fastener with wire, although a traditional pin back will also be provided. There will be time in class to explore ideas and work alongside one another.
 
KIT INCLUDES: 
- various wooden pieces, some small enough to use as is, and some larger if students want to cut/shape/modify in some way.
- length of 20 gauge sterling silver hard wire (18.94 ft/oz, 3 ft. per student)
- length of 22 gauge sterling silver hard wire (29.76 ft/oz, just under 3 ft. per student)
- 150 grit sandpaper - 240 grit sandpaper - 400 grit sandpaper
- super glue
- assorted beads
- 2 drill bits each: #71 and #66
- 4 commercially made pin backs/fasteners (easy lock stainless steel 1”)
- small file

  • Once registered, students will receive a video meeting code along with simple ZOOM instructions.
  • Features live demonstration and the ability to ask questions. Participants will have access via Zoom to viewing the recorded demonstration  for two weeks.
  • Workshop fees are non-refundable but are transferrable with a $25 transfer fee.
