Some Experience with Enameling
 
SESSION 1 
This two hour Zoom workshop will demonstrate use of glass seed beads in combination with vitreous enamels on copper.  Information covered includes:
  • metal preparation
  • tools, supplies, safe practices
  • sifted enamel application methods 
  • application and firing of counter enamel and base coats
  • placement, inlaying and firing of seed beads for differing effects
The goal is for participants to understand enameling basics relative to the seed bead inlay process, to gain confidence while exploring and experimenting with this enameling technique and to achieve exciting surfaces that exceed expected results.  
 
IN-BETWEEN SESSIONS | Students apply the techniques demonstrated in Session 1 to prepare for the discussion in Session 2.
 
SESSION 2 
This two hour Zoom “Follow-up” workshop will continue with the subject of using glass seed beads in combination with vitreous enamels on copper. This class and is intended to allow participants:
  • time to work in their personal studios in-between the two sessions on techniques demonstrated during Session 1.
  • to share their individual results and receive feedback from each other and from Barbara 
  • to get thorough answers to their questions from Barbara
  • to have Barbara review the specific information covered during Session 1 demonstrations.
The goal for this session is for participants to solidify their understanding and confidence with this enameling technique so they can continue using the processes learned on their own.
 

WORKSHOP DETAILS:

  • Participants must have the ZOOM video platform downloaded on a computer or phone. It’s easy! Download here.
  • Participants must have reliable internet access and a computer or phone with sound recording and web-cam capabilities to participate.
  • Once registered, students will receive a video meeting code along with simple ZOOM instructions.
  • Features an accompanying pdf. with a detailed supply list, a list of suppliers, images of  finished inlay examples and process order notes.
  • An accompanying Facebook page to ask questions in between the two sessions and for two weeks after the class ends,
  • Features live demonstration and the ability to ask Barbara questions. Participants will have access via Zoom to viewing the recorded demonstration  for two weeks.
  • Workshop fees are non-refundable but are transferrable.
 
ABOUT BARBARA:
Barbara Minor works from her studio in Louisiana where she utilizes the ancient technique of vitreous enameling to create her innovative enameled beads, distinctive enameled jewelry and unique enameled vessels. She began enameling during graduate school and continued developing her knowledge by exploring enamel processes while teaching a SUNY Geneseo. Barbara concentrates on researching, perfecting and documenting experimental or innovative enamel processes utilized in her skillfully crafted jewelry and objects. Barbara exhibits widely and teaches frequently across the U.S. and abroad. Her work has been pictured in 500 Enameled Objects, The Art of Enameling, and Art Jewelry Today.
