Beginning Chasing and Repoussé: Form and Texture

with Nancy Mēgan Corwin
Virtual Two day Demonstration Workshop using the Zoom Platform
February 21 & 28 | Time: 4:00 - 6:00p.m. ET
You will learn to create wonderful textures and forms in sheet copper using the ancient and still contemporary techniques of chasing and repoussé. Chasing refers to detailing the front of a piece of metal with specially designed steel tools. Repoussé is the process of creating levels of relief from the back of the sheet using steel and wood punches. The first week will focus on learning the tools and techniques by creating sample plates with exciting textures and fun forms. The second week we will take a design from beginning to end, with an emphasis on creating the illusion of the raised design floating on the back plate (undercutting). Samples and finished pieces will be discussed.
