Virtual One-Part Demonstration Workshop using the Zoom Platform
February 27 2021 | 1:00-3:00 p.m. ET
Glazing the outside of a pot can cover up the tactile beauty of the clay underneath, especially the smooth feel of sanded porcelain. In this workshop, students will learn layering techniques to create depth on an unglazed, mid-range porcelain surface. I will demonstrate how to color bagged clay with mason stains, how I make “colored grog," how to layer underglazes, how to mix and use mason stain washes and how to achieve a varied surface in the electric kiln. After the final firing, students will wet sand through the layers to soften the pot physically and visually.
