MATRIX AND PANCAKE DIE COMBINATIONS with Lauren Kalman February 19 & 26 2021

Matrix and Pancake Die Combinations

with Lauren Kalman
Virtual Two-Part Demonstration Workshop using the Zoom Platform
February 19 & 26 | Time: 1:00- 3:00p.m. ET
In this workshop students will learn how to create a forming die with a matching cutting die. These dies will be used in a hydraulic press to create multiples for jewelry, objects, or installation.
Using tool steel students will learn how to layout and hand cut pancake dies used for cutting a silhouette in copper, brass, or other nonferrous metal. We will then create a corresponding acrylic silhouette die to press dimensional forms that can then be quickly cut with the pancake die. Lauren will also share how she uses these tools and processes in her work.
This class will cover:
– Layout and cutting of pancake die
– Layout of corresponding acrylic die
– Using the dies in the press
– Variations with inserts
*While not nearly as effective a standard vice can be used as an alternative to a hydraulic press.
*This workshop can also be pared with the epoxy conforming die workshop to make cutting dies that can be used with the epoxy dies.
  • participants must have the ZOOM video platform dowloaded on a computer or phone to participate
