Creating a Human Portrait Out of Clay

Virtual One-Part Demonstration Workshop using the Zoom Platform
March 13 2021 | 1:00-3:00 p.m. ET 
During this workshop students will sculpt a human portrait out of solid clay alongside ceramic sculptor Jamie Bates Slone. Students will learn to create self-portraits in clay with specific attention given to trouble areas such as the eyes, mouth, nose, ears, and hair. Jamie will share how she addresses each of these areas as she guides students through the sculpting process. Proper proportions, sculpting techniques, tools, and clay will be demonstrated and discussed. Anatomy, underlying bone structure, musculature, and expression will also be addressed. This workshop is open to all skill levels.


  • Participants must have the ZOOM video platform downloaded on a computer or phone. It’s easy! Download here.
  • Material list will be emailed closer to class date.
  • Participants must have reliable internet access and a computer or phone with sound recording and web-cam capabilities to participate.
  • Once registered, students will receive a video meeting code along with simple ZOOM instructions.
  • Features live demonstration and the ability to ask Daniel questions. Participants will have access via Zoom to viewing the recorded demonstration  for two weeks.
  • Workshop fees are non-refundable but are transferrable with a $25 transfer fee.
