Protest Poetry with Katie Vagnino
In this workshop, we will focus on poems that seek to challenge or disrupt the status quo in some fundamental way through their form, content, or both. We will examine how contemporary American poets use words to advocate for—and protest against—issues that matter to them. The best poetry of this genre strikes a balance between art and argument, and feels both personal and universal, timely and timeless. By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed some methods for creating work that is powerful, provocative, and unsettling. All political perspectives welcome.
