"We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future." -- George Bernard Shaw
Supporters of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine understand George Bernard Shaw's quote more fully than most. They understand that the foundation for our future is rooted in our past and that to secure our best future by simply preserving that past as artifacts on exhibit is only the beginning. With the generous support of members and donors, the Museum is able to bring into clearer focus the implications of these stories and the far reaching legacy of lifesaving medical, managerial and humanitarian innovations that remain relevant and vital for our world today.

"History is not merely our past. It is our legacy and the foundation of all that we do as a human race. Without history, we have no building blocks for future growth. It is our history, and how we learn from it, that establishes the firm foundation upon which we can build a stronger, better world." George Wunderlich, Executive Director National Museum of Civil War Medicine
As a founding member of the Letterman Society, you understand that history, and in particular the history of Civil War medicine, continues to be a significant building block for the ongoing growth of medical, managerial and humanitarian innovation. Your five-year financial commitment beginning at $1,000 level per year will ensure that the National Museum of Civil War Medicine will continue to inspire our society by connecting the lessons of the past with the challenges of our world today, engage the broadest possible audience and partners, and encourage innovative and collaborative scholarship.
To ensure that our life changing work continues for generations to come, ten percent of every Letterman Society gift will be invested in one of the NMCWM's endowment accounts. In this way, Letterman Society members will not only provide the foundation upon which our current programs, projects and exhibits will be built, but also assure that the Museum will be able to carry on its mission well into the future.
As Federal, State and Local funding becomes scarcer, we are challenged to open new ways in which the public can invest in this important, living institution. Your multi-year pledge empowers the Museum to plan for near term programs and efforts confident in a given level of support, while building toward long-term sustainability as our endowment funds build.
