“There comes a moment when I can see the child is watching me and they are trying to make that decision about whether or not to open up and whether or not I am someone who is trustworthy—and whether or not it is worth the risk for them to have to open up and talk about what is very painful.
“Then I see the child square her shoulders and take this leap, and start to talk about the things that have happened in her life… and then it just comes pouring out. I wish everyone could see that.”
—Medical Director Carol Chervenak, MD
Building trust with children is critical at ABC House. For children who have been abused by their parent or caretaker, their most essential trusting relationship has been violated. Trusting yet another adult by describing these events and asking for help takes incredible courage.
You make this possible by giving children a safe space and caring experts who can make a difference. If children can be brave, we have to be there to support them. Your giving will continue to bring hope and healing for them and their families.
Thank you for standing with them and with us.
