Museum Docent/Tour Guide
Are you a lover of the Bay and a history buff? The Museum is in need of outgoing and dedicated individuals to guide and inspire visitors throughout our renovated McNasby’s Oyster Company building and exhibits. Operating hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All training and materials are provided. A regular commitment is desired.
As an educational programs volunteer, you will lead and assist with a suite of hands-on, experiential educational programs for students ranging from Pre-K to 6th grade. Help guide children through dynamic activities to encourage their curiosity about the world around them. Our volunteers are an integral part of the Education Center. Share your love of nature and maritime culture to help students form a connection with the Chesapeake Bay.
If you like to interact with the public and are interested in working alongside fellow community members, then AMM needs you! Volunteers provide critical staffing and support for all of the Museum's fundraisers and community outreach activities. Annual events require nearly 50 volunteers, and summer concerts need 15 per week. We have postings for all levels of physical activity, but are always in need of those who can do heavy lifting, especially event setup and break down.
Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse Tour Guide
Do you have a passion for maritime history or love of lighthouses? The crew leads guided weekend tours of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, a National Historic Landmark, during the summer months. All training and boater safety information is provided.
The Museum is looking for individuals who know their way around an office. Daily tasks may include data entry, filing, mailings and/or writing press releases. A regular commitment is desired.
Archives, Collections, & Research
The Museum houses a unique collection of objects, photographs, documents, and books relating to the maritime history of Annapolis. The Museum concentrates volunteer efforts on cataloguing and working with objects in the collection so that we can make our local history accessible to the general public. The Museum's Oral History Project is ongoing and looking for volunteers.
Have you ever wondered what the keel of a 1940's draketail workboat looks like? Our Wooden Boat Crew can be found painting, sanding, and patching our Chesapeake Workboats on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon in spring and fall. Whether you are an accomplished carpenter or someone who is interested in learning new skills, you are encouraged to join the crew as they bring historic and classic working boats back to life as displays at the Annapolis Maritime Museum.
Do you have a green thumb or just know your plants and flowers? If so, the Annapolis Maritime Museum's Garden Club is looking for you! Our grounds are used for various purposes, ranging from weddings to educational programs, and could use some regular sprucing. Bring your favorite gloves and shovels and get ready to beautify! Dates and times vary.
Help us maintain the main attraction in our exhibit! We will train you in the duties of cleaning and maintaining the Museum's 700-gallon fish tank and appropriate methods for feeding its inhabitants. The team meets one day per week (Wednesday mornings).
Are you a good communicator excited to share the mission of AMM to potential donors? Interested in helping us achieve our fundraising goals to support our education programs? Then this team is for you! Duties include soliciting donations from local area businesses and assisting with member communications.
