- ARIZONA STATE PARKS FOUNDATION
The Arizona State Parks Foundation 2018 Fundraising Campaign focuses on four Arizona State Parks & Trails with specific fundable needs identified to enhance the experience for daily visitors. Arizona State Parks Foundation is the official designated 501(c)3 nonprofit that offers visitors and donors a tax-deductible contribution option and a way to support PURPOSEFUL GIVING at Arizona State Parks & Trails. The Foundation works side-by-side with Parks & Trails staff and ask you to support the NEEDS LIST below.
Bat IR Counter - Cost $8,000 - Description: An IR bat counter in the sinkhole would allow very detailed bat count data to the minute/hour, and is completely passive. No bat count data has ever been collected in the sinkhole. As white nose syndrome approaches and threatens our bats in Arizona, having high-quality data on numbers of bats would be beneficial to tracking the impact of the disease on bat populations.
Bat Camera - Cost $3,000 - Description:This would include the purchase of a camera, lamps, computer, and cables. We seek to revamp our bat outreach programs to include more scientific data and citizen science opportunities. We plan to install an infrared camera that records the nightly bat outflights from the sinkhole. These cameras are high quality and video footage can be slowed down to identify individual bat species and whether a bat is pregnant. The video footage will be used to initiate a citizen science project similar to the Arizona Bat Watch, develop additional Discovery Center exhibit, and begin more detailed research projects on bats.
Hummingbird Garden Plants - Cost $3,000 - Description: The Hummingbird Garden has numerous bare spots and could use new native species of plants. This will enable visitors to see a wider array of plants for their enjoyment and education.
