A Year-end Request

Thank you for helping Black Rock Forest reconnect

all of us with nature and science!

Your generous support  will help our team of scientists and educators reconnect students, scientists and the public with nature and science as we move forward into 2022 with new programs and ideas!

  • BRF Summer Science Camp returned this summer under the direction of Dr. Angelica Patterson, Master Science Educator. Campers compiled diverse collections of forest insects; explored the forest's biodiversity through art; and learned the life history of amphibians and reptiles by catching, studying and releasing turles from our reservoirs.
  • Year three of Dr. Scott LaPoint's Wildlife Connectivity project connected the data from camera trapping, culvert monitoring and GPS collars on bobcats to paint a more complete picture of which wildlife are most impacted by the barriers of local roads and highways.
  • The research of our Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Grayson Badgley, recently featured on the cover of the Sunday LA Times, has given us an unbiased look at the carbon markets shortcomings and is helping to bring about change by reconnecting the market to science.

Looking to next year, our teams will integrate new technologies– including our wireless mesh network, our new and interactive website, and tools for educational video production – into our curricula and research. In 2022, look for new classes, public programs and research that you helped make possible!

Donations of $25 or more will receive the benefits of becoming a "Friend of the Forest", including an annual parking pass for the BRF Reservoir Road public parking lot. Details of our Friends of the Forest program can be found on the Friends of the Forest Donation page.

Donate $100 or more and receive our 2022 Calendar filled with a year's worth of Black Rock Forest images taken by talented Friends and staff.
