Yiddish Classes - Summer 2021

ALL CLASSES WILL TAKE PLACE ON ZOOM. 

All Classes are 7 weeks long.

General Interest: A Taste of Yiddish Language through Song

Beginning week of June 21

Monday eves, 7:30-9pm (Instructors Jonah Sidman & Adah Hetko)

 

Immerse yourself in Yiddish language, music, culture, and history. Students will read text of songs, learn melodies and listen to various traditional and new interpretations. (Materials will be provided free.)

Level 1: Beginner Yiddish

Choose from 2 sections:

      Beginning week of June 21

      Tuesday eves, 7:30-9pm (Instructor Jonah Sidman)

            OR

      Beginning week of July 11

      Sunday mornings, 10:30-12 (Instructor Dalia Wolfson)

 

Learn how to read Yiddish, elementary grammar, and conversation skills. Students who don't know the Hebrew alphabet will join half hour early for first few sessions. Interactive & lively class. (Textbook info will be sent with registration confirmation.)

Level 2:  Advanced Beginner Reading

Beginning week of June 21

Sunday evenings, 7:30 pm -9:00 pm (Instructor: Jonah Sidman)


Geared to students who have already taken Beginner 2. New students may join if they already know Yiddish alef-beys and simple grammar. Students will read "Mayn Folk", a Yiddish narrative of Jewish history. (Download text for free.)

Level 3A: Reading Class for New Intermediates

Beginning week of June 21

Wednesday evenings, 7:30 pm -9:00 pm (Instructor: Jonah Sidman)

 

This class is geared to students who have taken Beginner 3 or Advanced Beginner. New students may join if they can read simple text and know the past and future tenses.  Readings will be short stories from Jewish folklore. (Readings provided by teacher.)

Level 3B: Reading Class for Experienced Intermediates

Beginning week of June 21

Tuesday evenings, 7:30 pm -9:00 pm (Instructor: Abby Howell)

 

This course is for students who have already taken BWC's Intermediate class. New students may join if they can read more complex texts. Readings from "The Dybbuk" (Textbook info will be sent with registration confirmation.)
