"In The Middle" focuses on the experience of Ashkenazi Jews in the US, with three goals - a deeper understanding of Jewish identity in an American context, the ways in which anti-semitism plays out in a traditional and modern sense, and a goal of concrete individual and collective action for racial and economic justice. We will explore our families history and patterns, as well as the transition of Ashkenazi Jews from the margins to the middle (and back again?) Course includes weekly readings (encouraged, not demanded), and 2-3 small-group meetings outside of regular course time.

we're working on something different here in terms of talking about it
as a community. It really struck home for me when we had the Shabbat
dinner for gay and lesbian marriage."
