The First Annual Arts Prize Honors Gala

NEW CLEVELAND ARTS PRIZE AWARD HONORS LEADERSHIP & ACTIVISM

On June 13, the Cleveland Arts Prize will introduce a third Special Prize to its yearly awards program, expanding the organization’s ability to recognize and encourage longstanding examples of arts advocacy and achievements of great merit.

The new Barbara S. Robinson Special Prize will be awarded annually to an individual or organization for extraordinary commitment to advancement of the arts through leadership in public policy, legislation, arts education and community development. Together with CAP’s other Special Prizes named for Martha Joseph and Robert Bergman, the new honor gives CAP’s panelists a sharp tool to recognize many different types and levels of service to the arts, across both public and private sectors.

Barbara S. Robinson herself, whose resume could be published as a handbook of contemporary leadership in a dozen fields, is one of the best imaginable candidates for the CAP award created in her honor.

Among the distinguished presenters at CAP Honors on June 13th will be CIM’s President, Paul Hogle, CMA’s William Griswold, Honorary Event Chairs, Meg and R. Thomas Stanton, CAP’s Chair Howard J. Freedman, and CAP Recipients Felise Bagley (CAP2015) and Dave Lucas (CAP 2016). August A. Napoli, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Cleveland will speak on the subject of civic engagement.

Another particular treat that evening will be two performances by best-selling solo pianist and CIM Alum, Jim Brickman. Brickman is especially noted as a captivating live performer, as well as TV performer and best selling author. The Shaker Heights native is the winner of two SESAC Songwriter of the Year awards, two Grammy nominations, and has 21 Number One albums to his credit. Brickman has collaborated with Carly Simon, Herb Albert, Johnny Matthis, Kenny Loggins, Donny Osmond, and many other Pop icons of the past few decades.
