Cleveland Botanical Garden
Thursday, June 24, 20216 pm - 10 pm
Cleveland Arts Prize celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2020 with a new project, Past Masters: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants. The upcoming outdoor garden party will kick off year-long programming designed to honor 60 legendary, and in some cases under-recognized, regional artists of national and international stature, who made remarkable contributions in their arts disciplines years before CAP was founded (1960).
Please join us for a gourmet picnic, wine & cocktails, and performances, as we toast 2020’s Special Prize winners: Chuck and Char Fowler, Roe Green, Scott Mueller, Helen Forbes Fields, Jerry Sue Thornton, PhD, John “Jack” Katzenmeyer (posthumous) and Steven Minter (posthumous), and honor these artistic greats from our region’s history:
Poet Langston Hughes; composer Howard Swanson; designer Clara Driscoll; pop artist Roy Lichtenstein; actor Paul Newman; architect Frank Walker; comedian Bob Hope; actress Dorothy Dandridge; and actress Margaret Hamilton.
Mingle with recent Arts Prize winners while learning about the giants upon whose shoulders they stand, as you meander through the stunning gardens.
We look forward to seeing you there!

About Cleveland Arts Prize
The Cleveland Arts Prize (CAP), founded by the Women’s City Club of Cleveland in 1960, is the oldest award of its kind in the United States. The Prize is a testament to the standard of excellence and quality of artists in Northeast Ohio. In addition to artists, the Cleveland Arts Prize honors individuals and organizations that have expanded the role of the arts in the community. Since its inception, CAP has honored over 400 artists and arts leaders.
Today, CAP continues as a trusted, peer-directed arbiter and guardian of the city’s creative history. Through its prize winners, CAP is the nucleus of Northeast Ohio’s arts and culture legacy and the living archive of our community’s triumphs. CAP artists have woven their genius into America’s arts and letters, contributing vital color to the nation’s cultural fabric. CAP is proud to honor and support them.
