The CMC Habitat Conservation Plan established a preserve adjacent to Copper Mountain College's campus in 2006 to protect threatened desert tortoises. Ongoing funding is provided by the Copper Mountain College Foundation, the Desert Tortoise Council, and the Mojave Water Agency to help with a portion of the costs associated in maintaining the preserve, but the Adopt-a-Tortoise program and the Desert Studies Club raise additional revenue to protect these desert treasures.
Your donation of at least $25 will receive an Adoption Certificate and a photo of one of our local desert tortoises. Visiting rights vary with adoption levels and may be determined by Dr. Paul Delany, Copper Mountain College Tortoise Preserve's Biologist. Your donation is processed through Copper Mountain College Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit and is tax deductible as allowed by law, #95-3778234.
