Help us support our youngest students at Ledyard Center School!“iPads to Enhance Small Group Instruction” Jackie Flakus, Jen Hickey, Gina Venancio, Ledyard Center School Our goal is for our students to gain independence and apply Literacy and Math skills taught. Small group instruction is important in meeting the needs of young learners. Having other engaging options, such as iPads, for students to practice skills independently will enable us to provide instruction in smaller groups. Differentiation and intervention are more easily implemented with alternative activities that students can engage in when they are not working directly with us. Another purpose of the iPads will be documenting independent student work through online portfolios. An example of this would be the SeeSaw app. As students complete independent work, they can be taught to take a photo with an iPad and post it to their individual online portfolio. The work can be looked at in the portfolio at times convenient to the teacher without disrupting the flow of teaching and learning. This would add a layer of accountability for the students. The portfolios can also be shared with families so they can see some of the things happening in the classroom.
