Volunteer Opportunties

Sweet Dreams Program (weekly)

This program takes place in the Loudoun County Emergency Shelter each Thursday evening for one hour. During that hour, volunteers read to the children living in the shelter. We ask that you try to make at least a one-hour per month commitment to the program. Volunteers must attend an orientation session prior to volunteering, these are held approximately 4 times a year. Please be aware that no volunteers under 15 are permitted at the shelter and any volunteer under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Head Start Family Literacy Nights (4 times during the school year)

Volunteers are needed to assist during these evening celebrations to help with setup/cleanup, serving dinner, assisting with activities, etc. Ages 10 - Adult. Also, occasionally need volunteers for pre-party assembling: cutting, glueing, packing, etc.

Book Pack Assembly

Volunteers are need to help assemble book packs that go to the Head Start students. This typically involves collating, stapling, book-stamping, etc. A great opportunity for girl scout troops or community service organizations!

Baby Book Bundles Shower

Loudoun Literacy Council’s Baby Book Bundles program provides low-income new moms with new baby books, a small gift item, and literacy information about the importance of establishing an early reading routine with their babies.  You can help by hosting your own Baby Book Bundles Shower!

Fall for Reading

This event is held each year at Rust Library in Leesburg, Virginia. The theme is "Celebrating Reading Together as a Family". Volunteers are needed for setup/teardown and assisting with activities throughout the day. The event is held mid-September on a Sunday afternoon, each year. 2016 date is TBD.
