On June 12th of this year I will be turning 70 years young. To celebrate this milestone I have decided to cycle across the province of Ontario to raise funds and awareness for lupus. Lupus is a devastating disease that impacts 1 in 1,000 Ontarians. It most commonly strikes young women in the prime of their lives (between the ages of 15 and 45). The disease is complex, difficult to treat and can be fatal. The medications currently available to control lupus include steroids and chemotherapy. Both these treatments have severe side effects. There is no cure for lupus and funding is badly needed to find a cure and to end the suffering.
To complete this journey across Ontario I have set out a route that will start near the 401 and Quebec border then follow along the Ottawa River through North Bay, Temiskaming, Thunder Bay and Kenora to the Manitoba border. Susan will be my SWAG driving our motorhome to provide me with protection, security and a place to rest as we plan on camping in provincial parks where possible. My plan is to complete the journey within the month of June (30 days).
I have set a personal fund raising goal of $5,000. Your generous support will help me reach my goal and be my motivation in this challenging journey. All money raised will be donated to Lupus Ontario (Registered Charity 883331472RR0001) and will be used to fund lupus research. You will receive your official tax receipt by email within 5 days of your donation.
Thank you in advance for your support.
