In memory of our dear friend, former orchestra violinist, and NJIO Trustee
John "Jack" L. N. Prewitt, Jr.
This page has been set up at the request of Jack’s family to accept donations.
Jack Prewitt was devoted to NJIO for many years and his countless contributions will not be forgotten. Jack not only enjoyed playing violin in all of the NJIO’s ensembles, but he also served important roles as a Trustee and mainstay fundraiser. In 2003, Jack was one of a handful of individuals who stepped up to keep NJIO’s dream alive when the founder departed and was instrumental in building the strong organization NJIO is today.
When playing the violin in the Symphony became physically challenging for Jack, he proudly joined NJIO’s Prelude Ensemble, where he was loved and appreciated for his mentorship of new string players. Jack continued on the Board of Trustees as a Trustee Emeritus when he could no longer attend the Board meetings and still played an important role in NJIO’s sustaining fundraising activities.
No one epitomized NJIO’s mission of Bridging the Generations Through Music more than Jack Prewitt. In recognition of all of Jack’s contributions and with gratitude and love, NJIO is pleased to announce the formation of the Jack Prewitt Fund for Beginner String Players. This fund will endow NJIO’s Prelude and Golden Strings programs for beginners and provide scholarships for needy beginners.
