COURSE DESCRIPTION
 
This course is designed to provide discussions about ethics and professional development for mental health practitioners.  It provides opportunity for attendees to learn theoretical understandings about ethics and to refine their application of these ethics with clients.  Attendees are also able to integrate cultural and developmental theory into their learning about ethics.  This course will assist in the development of their knowledge and skills in ethical decision-making, ethical standards related to their work as mental health professionals, and learning about empirical discussions of common ethical dilemmas in the field. It will consist of experiential and small group learning, with a focus on practicing and building skills related to work in school and mental counseling. In addition, a primary goal of this course is to help each attendee increase knowledge of self as a provider of counseling services to others. 
  
PRESENTER BIO:
Theo Burnes is a Full Professor and Core Faculty at Antioch University, Los Angeles. He is the Associate Editor for Training and Education in Professional Psychology, and is on the Board of Directors for the California Association for Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (CALPCC). His scholastic interests include sexuality and sex-positivity in mental health practice; clinical supervision; teaching pedagogy and training in mental health practice
 
 
 
The Southern California Counseling Center is approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (PCE #249) and CAMFT (Provider # 62299) to provide continuing education for MFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs. This course satisfies the BBS requirement for six (6) hours of continuing education in the area of Law and Ethics as a condition of each license renewal.
