Write On, Door County is pleased to administer the Norbert Blei Award in Poetry. Presented annually, the award honors the late renowned Door County author Norbert Blei. The award includes a prize of $150 and complimentary registration to the Washington Island Literary Festival. Poems must be related to the theme of the festival. The theme for the 2018 Literary Festival is water.
The competition is generally open April 1 through July 15. A different poet of established reputation serves as the judge each year. The Literary Festival is held over a Friday-Sunday in mid-September. Registration and two-nights lodging are included in the award package. The poet will read the winning poem during the course of the festival.
The contest is open to beginning and established poets who are at least 18 years of age and residents of Wisconsin. Poets may submit 1-3 unpublished poems, with only one poem per page. Poems may be longer than one page but no longer than three pages. The poet’s name should not appear on the poems and a biographical statement must accompany your submitted poems.
